A Sense of Belonging: Welcome Back to Kingsworth

Dear Kingsworth Families,

Welcome to the new school year. We are so pleased to welcome back our returning families and to open our doors to those who are joining us for the first time. Our goal at Kingsworth is to open our doors to families from all around the world and to help each of you find your place within our community.

As students walked through the gate this week, everyone experienced something new — even those who have been with us for several years. Perhaps your child entered a new classroom, met new classmates, had a new teacher, or experienced all these things at once. When we are faced with something new, it can feel strange at first, and it may take a few days or weeks before a new situation begins to feel truly yours — like you belong here. This is one of the strengths of our intentionally small school: creating an environment where every student can make connections, feel valued and develop a sense of belonging within our community, so that they can learn with curiosity and feel included each day.

Our students strengthen their sense of belonging by coming to class on time each day and having time to transition naturally into our learning environment — chatting with friends, connecting with their teachers, and getting ready to learn. These small interactions build connections and contribute to a true sense of wellbeing for everyone. They are an essential part of our school day. The feeling of being valued and belonging continues to grow throughout the day — during class lessons, at lunch, and outside of the classroom. Students have a voice here, and we encourage everyone to use it and to be heard.

Our leadership team and staff want our parents to feel that they belong here too. In the primary school, I value the moments we have at the front gate, chatting about the little things that have come up since we last met, and helping your child feel welcomed as they arrive for the day. Throughout the year, our team will be available to meet with any parent who would like to discuss their child or our school, and I will try to join you from time to time for a coffee at the KPA coffee mornings. Belonging goes in both directions — I am here to help you feel that you belong at Kingsworth, and you help me feel that I belong here with you as well.

I hope that you and your family have enjoyed this first week of school with us and that we will continue to build our connections throughout the year. We are all part of the Kingsworth community, and my wish for everyone is that you feel that you belong here.

With kindness always,

Dr Stephanie Mounier
Head of Primary
